What We Do
Chaplains operate out of Kelburn and Pipitea campuses.
At Ramsey House (8 Kelburn Parade), we’re open Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 3pm during term time. We’re also on the mezzanine floor of Rutherford House at Pipitea- check the sign for our hours.
Each week is full of different activities you’re invited to, scroll down to see some of our regular offerings!
Ramsey $2 Cafe
$2 for bottomless filter coffee, a pot of tea or a hot chocolate, and $2 toasties on Thursday and Friday Lunch times through teaching and study weeks. We’re your cheapest lunch on campus.
We are open for you to meet with friends, grab a hot drink, and get stuck into your readings… or a game of bananagrams. Our space is welcoming, inclusive and we make a point of learning your name.
Mid-Week Worship and Lunch
At 12 noon Wednesday we meet in the chapel to praise God, hear from the Bible, and pray for one another and the world.
The service is led by students and supported by the chaplaincy team. We always end with a delicious vegetarian meal at 1pm for whoever would like to stay - or turn up just for that part.
Our Chapel is a welcome space for anyone interested in the Christian faith or wanting to learn more.
We host a collection of over 5000 books, covering Christian theology, ethics, religious studies and more.
If you’re a Religious Studies student, studying theology by distance, or just interested in theology and religious thought, you’re welcome to read on-site, or loan books for up to one month. Sign up for a free account and browse the catalogue here.
Newswatch
A group for international students to meet and practice english conversation, while watching current events.
Newswatch is a chance to make friends, learn about different cultures, and gain confidence in conversational english.
The group meets weekly on Mondays at 5:30pm at Ramsey house. You can connect through Andrew for more information.
Pastoral and Spiritual Care
Our Chaplains can offer pastoral care to staff and students, regardless of background or belief.
This can look like an informal conversation over a coffee, prayer ministry, regular Spiritual Direction, or anything in between. Talk to us about what you may need and how we can help.
Our services are free, and confidential. We work closely with Mauri Ora - Student Health and Wellbeing and are happy to help you access professional support for any mental or physical health needs you may have.
International Friendship Club
Share food and hear what students from different backgrounds have to share while making great friends on your exchange or international study journey.
IFC meets at Ramsey house on Thursdays at 5.30pm and regularly organises informal trips and gatherings outside of that too. IFC is for both international and domestic students. Check them out on Facebook to connect.
